ABOUT ME

Hello!

I am a cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist that specialises in anxiety, pain management and insomnia.  The tools and techniques I use are safe, scientifically based and have a effective track record in the areas I specialise in.

Ease Your Mind.

Just like when we a little help from glasses to see clearly, sometimes our minds need tools to help us navigate some of the challenges in life.  Once we work out what is going on, we work together to set achievable goals and then how to work towards them.

Working on resilience means we work towards having the tools and skills to help us cope when life is challenging.

There are many situations where we can feel overwhelmed, exams, public speaking, an operation or treatment, promotions, menopause or illness.  What we look to do is to use the techniques and tools to help you ease the stress and worry and let you live life on your terms.

How I work

I work on zoom currently, and I have a discovery call of 15 minutes first to gather information and to ensure my tools are a good fit, and that you are comfortable.  Once we are ready to work together, we then set up our first session, which gathers more information.   We then agree an action plan together, including the likely number or sessions required and a outline of what we will tackle in each.  This often changes at the client’s requests as our work leads us to the best course of action.  One of the key things to understand from the outset is that therapy can be hard work for the client and those prepared to do the work will have the best outcomes.  Depending on what we are working on, you may have small agreed action plan tasks between sessions and you will often have personalised recordings to listen to.  The tools are all safe and the client is always in control.  It is my role to facilitate, help and guide.

Getting ready

I will always follow up with an email or WhatsApp to send on any personalised recordings or to capture any action between sessions, but is a good idea to have a notepad and a pen handy to record any relevant points that you may want to remind yourself of later.  The sessions are gentle and the tools we use are safe and scientifically proven, but they are designed to work quickly.  It is common for a treatment plan to be between 4 to 6 sessions. If possible your room should be at a comfortable temperature, you should be wearing comfortable clothes and come prepared to do some hard work.  Most sessions will include some form or relaxation, breathing work, hypnosis or other focussed attention work, so you ideally want to carve out an hour that you will not be interrupted, making sure pets etc. are not able to disrupt our work.  You want gentle lighting and your phone on silent.

What is hypnotherapy

Combining different therapeutic tools with hypnotherapy, in most cases provides a better result.  Hypnotherapy is often misunderstood, but we describe it as a state of focussed attention, where the client is working hard in their mind but is fully in control.  A good way to describe it is when you are engrossed in a film or a good book and your attention is completely focussed on that activity.  You are however fully in control and can chose at any point to stop reading or watching.  Hypnosis is exactly like that, there are no trances involved only focussed attention on what we are working on.  There is however a very real risk of you start feeling better, calmer and have an action plan for the future!

Why I Decided To Become A Therapist

When I sold my accountancy practice, the main thing I missed was the interaction with my amazing team and the value add work I did with clients.  I also found I had some time to work on some self-development of my own.  I had a few things that made me miserable which included difficulty losing weight, guilt and grief.

I did a lot of research, and found the really powerful combination of cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy.  The training was science based and transdiagnostic, helping you identify what is happening and then using one or a combination of tools to gently work with you to help you live life on your terms.  In short I felt miserable, and now I don’t, and to quote the college, “now that you are trained, don’t be selfish, go and help others!”  So here I am.
